On October 28, 2026, Google announced the opening of its Connected Apps Platform preview, allowing developers to integrate third-party applications with Google Search’s AI Mode and the Gemini app.
Google says,
“We’re launching a Connected Apps Platform to give developers a single place to build and manage apps for Search and the Gemini app. Plus, we’re rolling out a new set of Connected Apps from partners like Adobe, Calm, and Peloton.”
Google Connects AI Search With Third-Party Apps
The Connected Apps Platform allows external applications to work directly within Google’s AI-powered experiences. Rather than simply providing information, AI Mode and Gemini can help users take action through connected services.
For example, users can create designs using Canva or prepare grocery carts through Instacart. Google is also bringing connected app integrations to areas such as productivity, fitness, event ticketing, and entertainment.
The company says more than 50 connected apps have launched across Search and Gemini, with additional integrations planned.
How Developers Can Join the Platform
Developers can register their applications through Google Connected Console and submit them for Google’s review. They can connect through a remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) server or Android’s AppFunctions APIs.
Google also provides performance monitoring tools that allow developers to track app traffic, response times, and errors. Applications must meet Google’s requirements before they become available to users.
What This Means for SEO and Digital Marketing
This development highlights how AI search is moving beyond providing information toward helping users complete tasks. For businesses, it could create additional opportunities to connect with potential customers through Google’s AI experiences.
It also brings attention to three areas:
➣ AI visibility: Businesses may need to consider how their services appear within AI-powered experiences, alongside traditional search results.
➣ Clear service information: Accurate descriptions and well-defined app capabilities can help AI systems understand which services are relevant to user requests.
➣ New customer touchpoints: App integrations could offer eligible businesses another way to engage users who are ready to take action.
However, being connected to Google’s AI platforms does not guarantee visibility or higher search rankings. Businesses should continue focusing on useful content, technical SEO, and a strong online presence while monitoring how these AI experiences develop.
What Businesses Should Watch Next
Google plans to expand the Connected Apps Platform with more developers, applications, and supported markets. As these integrations grow, businesses will have more opportunities to explore how their services can fit into AI-powered search experiences.
The shift is significant for digital marketing because online visibility may increasingly involve more than appearing in search results. It could also mean making products and services accessible when users want to take action.
