Google is expanding its AI-powered Search into travel, providing users with new methods to check airline fares, compare points and miles, and book hotels directly through Search. The August 27, 2026 update takes Google beyond travel research and into the decision-making and booking stages of a trip.
The change may make trip planning easier for passengers, but it also raises a larger concern for travel businesses: How do you stay relevant when Google itself becomes part of the travel-planning journey?
Google Brings Flight Price Tracking to AI Mode
Google has added AI Mode to its flight price-tracking feature. After entering their location, travel dates, and preferences, users can ask AI Mode to keep an eye on the costs of particular flights.
AI can notify users via email when flight rates change, enabling them to monitor fares without constantly looking for the same flight.
Flight information is being sourced from more than 300 partner airlines and travel companies’ websites, with price tracking available across more than 180 countries and territories.
Inside AI Mode: Comparison, Price Tracking, and Email Alerts Update

AI Mode Adds Points and Miles Comparisons
The update has enabled AI to give points and miles comparison results based on users’ loyalty points and coupons, unlike the traditional approach, which used to show only the fixed prices for flights and accommodation.
This feature can help individuals save their money and time by comparing regular costs to loyalty-program rates inside the same search experience.
Google Expands Hotel Booking in AI Mode
Google is also expanding hotel booking capabilities within AI Mode. Users can enter their destination, dates, and hotel preferences and get results, including guest ratings and comparison details.
For supported partners, users can select a hotel, check details like cancellation rules, and proceed to payment via Google Pay using the “Continue on Google” option. The hotel or booking platform remains responsible for the reservation and customer services.
The hotel-booking rollout has started in the U.S. in English, with partners including Booking.com, Choice Hotels International, Expedia, Hilton, Hotels.com, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, Priceline, Trip.com, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.
How This Update Is Going to Impact Travel Businesses and SEO
The way travel companies compete for visibility in Google Search may change with this update. Businesses will need to maintain accurate and consistent information about pricing, availability, amenities, cancellation rules, and locations throughout their online presence as people use AI-generated responses to find and compare travel options.
A brand’s exposure and reputation can be enhanced through helpful, question-focused content, favourable reviews, reliable references, high-quality backlinks, and a technically sound website.
In addition to traditional search results, SEO teams should monitor how their websites and content appear in AI-powered search, as well as changes in visibility and traffic. Regularly reviewing these changes can help them identify new growth opportunities.
