Google is expanding its product offerings by incorporating Gemini AI and is now extending this upgrade to Google TV. At CES 2025, the technology leader introduced the latest repetition of the Google TV operating system, aimed at revolutionizing user engagement through Gemini AI.

Two significant enhancements are set to arrive for Google TV. Firstly, users will have the ability to issue voice commands without the need for a remote control. Secondly, the launch of ‘AI summarization’ (also referred to as News Brief) will deliver concise news updates.

These innovative Gemini AI features are expected to roll out later this year, available for both new and existing Google TV devices in a limited version.

With these developments, Google seeks to facilitate:

  • Natural voice interactions
  • Improved content search
  • Strengthened YouTube connectivity

A notable aspect is the incorporation of Gemini into the Google Assistant voice-control framework. It has made the system more user-friendly. For instance, with voice commands, users will not require a remote, whereas they will be equipped with far-field microphones, enabling sound capture from a distance, akin to Google Home, thus allowing for hands-free functionality.

Moreover, the forthcoming Google TVs will be equipped with proximity sensors. These sensors will recognize when users are in close range, triggering the display of personalized widgets such as weather updates and news briefs.
